What will I study?
Five modules take you through the complete intelligence cycle, from the law that governs it to running it end-to-end yourself.
- The legal and ethical backbone of intelligence work in Aotearoa: the Privacy Act 2020, Official Information Act, Protective Security Requirements, NZIIP professional standards, and Te Tiriti obligations in intelligence practice.
- The collection disciplines of HUMINT, OSINT, SIGINT, GEOINT and IMINT, and how to choose the right source for the job. Plan and prioritise collection, evaluate reliability, and manage the flow of information into your intelligence system
- Structured analytical techniques used by professional analysts worldwide: Analysis of Competing Hypotheses, the Cone of Plausibility, pattern analysis and threat assessment, plus how to recognise and defeat the cognitive biases that derail good analysis.
- Write, brief, and visualise intelligence that decision-makers actually use. Master the ABCs of intelligence communication (Accuracy, Brevity, Clarity) and build the professional relationships that keep intelligence flowing.
- Your capstone. Run a complete intelligence cycle, from decision-maker requirement through collection, collation, analysis, and delivery of a finished intelligence product, proving you can do this work independently, end to end.

Am I eligible to enrol?
I have a security clearance or confidentiality obligations. Can I still complete assessments?
Yes. The programme was designed for exactly this. You will never be asked to submit real casework, operational detail, or classified or client-confidential information. What's assessed is your capability, not your organisation's information.
I've completed the Level 3 Intelligence certificate. Is this my next step?
Yes. The level 5 is a direct progression from Level 3.
How is the course delivered?
Fully online, with optional live sessions and cohort-based engagement, designed for working professionals, including shift workers. There is no workshop attendance requirement.
Is this qualification recognised by employers?
Yes. It's a nationally recognised NZQA qualification (Ref 5079) on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework. Unlike internal agency training, it's a portable credential that stays with you across roles and employers.
