Entry requirements vary by level. Level 2 and 3 courses are open to New Zealand residents aged 16+ (18+ for international students) with no prior healthcare experience required. Level 4 courses suit experienced healthcare workers ready to advance. Online courses typically require current employment in the healthcare sector. What practical experience will I get?
All healthcare courses include substantial hands-on learning. Level 3 includes 100 hours of clinical placement at aged care or disability facilities, organised by Skills Institute. You'll learn in real healthcare settings using professional equipment, practice taking blood pressure, wound management, patient communication, and become familiar with hospital and aged care facility equipment.

Graduates work as healthcare assistants, caregivers, nurse aides, and support workers in hospitals, aged care facilities, community care, disability support, and therapeutic programmes. Pay scales reward qualifications thanks to the 2017 Pay Equity Settlement Act. Level 2 qualified workers earn $23/hour, Level 3 starts at $25/hour, and Level 4 begins at $27/hour.
